A place to begin

Tantra names many traditions with different deities, texts and practices. The six-centre account translated in The Serpent Power is one influential example. It should not be projected onto every tantric system or treated as an illustration of biomedical anatomy.

A historical translation and commentary on selected tantric texts. One account of centres and channels, not a universal tantric system.

Its own map of the person

Śiva–Śakti in selected Śaiva–Śākta accounts; Tantra is broader. The embodied person in a lineage-specific ritual cosmos. Mind, mantra and awareness in specific ritual settings.

Body, breath and transformation

Śakti and kuṇḍalinī are related but not interchangeable terms. Cakras, nāḍīs and bindu; counts and locations vary. Ascent, descent and integration in particular systems.

What freedom means here

Liberation or realization as specified by the lineage. The body may be a ritual field; supernatural outcomes are claims. Initiation, teacher and prescribed ethical commitments.

A distinction to carry with you

The popular seven-colour chakra chart is not every tantra’s map.

These short notes are a starting framework for study. A fuller account needs particular passages, attributed translations and the tradition’s internal debates. The source above is a reading entry point, not a claim that every statement here has completed scholarly review.
